What Kind of Gear Did You Use?

I'm interested in knowing what kind of cameras & sound equipment you used for the film. Also what kind of editing equipment you would recommend for cutting this kind of documentary? Thanks in advance!

Good Question... I Don't Know!

Hi Alex, I think that's a great question but I have no idea what the answer is!

I'm gonna get some of the guys from the film crew in here to field this one. Check back later!

During the actual filming of

During the actual filming of the documentary we used several different cameras. Mainly what ever we could rent, beg, or borrow. But primarily we used the Canon GL2, and sometimes the Canon XL1. The opening super 8 footage is actually of Don and his friends when they were teenagers. The end super 8 was shot by me on several different vintage super 8 cameras. Sound equipment... I will need to get back to you on, but it was a combination of shotgun mics, with lav mics for the subjects. When we could, we recorded to mini disc. However, as you can see in the film, some locations and on the fly shooting would not allow for this, so we patched the mics straight into the cameras. This is less ideal but kept us mobile, which was very important. As far as editing... our whole project was edited in Final Cut Pro because it was suitable to the format we shot on, and also what my editor wanted to use.
